This building was originally Blumauer & Frank Drug Company, where they were a large manufacturing pharmacist. In 1937 the McKesson Robbins Drug Company bought the building and then in 1980 they turned it into artist’s lofts. They were developed as wide open spaces that artists could use as a studio and a living space, but in 1995 as the Pearl District was becoming a growing condominium market, Grancorp Inc converted this building into loft style condominiums. This building has 84 units and one of the best rooftop decks in the Pearl District. From this residence common area you have a 360 degree view of the city. These condominiums have many of the original characteristics of when they were artist’s studios, but each loft is very different.

This project which lies along the Willamette River between the Broadway Bridge and the Steel Bridge is like no other in the Pearl. These were originally built as apartments in 2005 and have recently finished converting them into condominiums. This complex has a swimming pool and sun deck with a hot tub for all residents to use. The fitness center, small convenience store and a coffee shop on the grounds have made this a community within a community. Many units are town home style with two levels, but many one level units exist.

This 6-story brick building was built in 1998 by Carroll Aspen and has a wide range of floor plans. This project has 68 units and retail space on the bottom. Each unit offers a balcony or terrace and all have amenities such as air conditioning and parking. These units have at least 10 foot ceilings and with the 8 penthouse units they have 11 foot ceilings. As you walk through the lobby, a sign reading “there’s no place like home” greets you. I think there is no better way to come home from a long day than a sign like that.

This is a brand new building located on Lovejoy Street between 10th and 11th. The Metropolitan will be the tallest building in the Pearl District standing nineteen stories tall. This building will have one of the higher price/sqft due to the luxury finishes. They definitely didn’t cut any corners on this one. For the wine lovers in the Pearl, who don’t have enough room in their loft they rent wine-storage lockers inside the building as well as a 24 hour concierge. This pure glass tower is definitely deserving of their name.
Modern Confectionery Lofts

This was a project done by Robert Ball in 1999 and was originally Portland’s first confectionary production plant. The building was built in the 1900’s with exposed beams and brick and a lot of character. There are only 6 units in this amazing building and these units will maintain tax abatement through 2009. These units very rarely come on the market, but once they do, you will see how incredible they are.

Originally built in the early 1900’s and was used as an indoor junkyard was converted into condominiums in 1999. Along with the conversion to condominium units they added five additional floors with a different siding and maintained an empty shell for buyers to customize as they saw fit. You will see very few similarities in these top five floors, as every owner created different ideas. There are a total of 67 units in this building all with exposed wood beams and concrete columns running through each individual unit.

This project located on the Park Blocks has only 18 Condos. Originally built in 2000, this condominium building looks out onto the North Park blocks looking at a bocci ball and basketball court. Most of the 18 units face east to the park, giving a little more of a private setting.
This boutique hotel has a thai restaurant on the ground floor called Peemkaew Thai. The developer of Park Northwest owns the restaurant where condo owners of Park Northwest receive a 10% discount off meals.

South of this building is Jamison Square Park, one of the busiest parks in the downtown area, and a great sunny-day grass area to play. This building built 2001 is most often identified as the “Go by Streetcar” sign building. Not only is this a pure concrete building, but the finishes are unique as well. For those of you who are not looking for the industrial flare, or the European style condominium building, this is a great place to look.
